They are playing hide and seek now, one of her favorite games. Sierra likes to close her eyes and count to 10 (in Chinese) super fast and then say "Ready or not, here I come!" and you barely have time to hide.
Just now, I heard Josh say "Daddy's getting tired."
That always happens when you play with Ra ra, of boundless energy, and few hours of sleep.
Gran stayed the weekend to help since she is sick. I got to sleep in until 10am. (S woke up at 7:30am, on the late side, but not really late. The girl does not know how to sleep in.)
Not as much a blog as an online baby book for jotting down notes, milestones, and documenting all the wonderful stories of Sierra before we forget them! - for her to enjoy when she grows up and for us to look back on the memories in the future. Note that this blog is not publicly searchable, so please do not share the link. I may end up password protecting it at some point.

Sierra is sick again
Sierra was over her runny nose by last weekend, but not even a week later and... Friday starting around 2am, Gran noticed her congested and breathing rapidly, and she felt hot. She has a mild grade fever. It has thankfully stayed mild so far, but her congestion is making it hard to breathe at night. Sigh. I kept her asleep last night by lying next to her and letting her twirl my hair. I kept propping her up on a pillow since she of course kept sliding down. Often Gran will hold her upright to sleep in her lap, but due to the mild fever, we didn't want to make her hot.

Box orange juice!
"Box orange juice!" Sierra says. Sierra likes having box orange juice these days. The mini Tropicana Pure Premium boxes with a straw. They are fortified with calcium, so that's good.
I love how Sierra says "orange". Wornj, it sounds like. so it's more like "Box Wornj juice!" We finally videotaped her saying this yesterday.

Taking turns
Sierra really understands the concept of taking turns and likes to take turns. For example this morning when lining up her animals in a parade, she wanted me (Josh) to do it with her. So after lining up a few animals, she said "your turn" and then I added one animal. Then she said "my turn", added an animal, and said "your turn" again. And on and on. She was annoyed when I didn't immediately take my turn too, but she never skipped ahead.
Mi cha. And becoming pickier.
Sierra really likes mi cha (toasted barley tea). Actually mi cha means rice tea, but they taste the same.
She also drinks chamomile tea (which gran translated to An shen cha = calming tea, since there's no Chinese word for it).
She does not like juice except for orange juice. And she used to like OJ from concentrate (which we called mommy orange juice since I drink it a lot and she'll share a straw with me), but now will only drink not from concentrate or fresh squeezed. Which is too bad since OJ from concentrate is fortified with calcium and she doesn't care for milk or soy milk much.
Sierra is not a big fruit person. She used to like fruit more - like blueberries. But she won't eat blueberries anymore. Every morning we squeeze her 1 orange to get some fruit into her.
Sierra does like greens though. Ayi says she eats less fruit, but more veg than other kids. She likes sauteed baby spinach, which is tender. She'll eat most Chinese greens too, including mustard greens. I just chop it up before giving it to her.
She used to love brocolli and cauliflower, but is barely touching them these days. Same with eggs. All makes meal prep harder.
Every morning, Sierra has some soy milk or sometimes milk and a bit of cereal (a vehicle for the milk, which she doesn't really like on its own). Then a bowl of oatmeal and other grains (currently: oat bran, quinoa flakes, ground flaxseed, wheat germ). This is a habit she has had since eating solids.
She doesn't like it sweet. But she likes it with chopped avocado on top. More recently, with dried kale chips crumbled on top and sunflower seeds sprinkled on top. Or seaweed (of course).
Sierra has started liking cucumbers the past few months (thanks to us mentioning how Sophia likes them). Sierra eats them plain "English cucumbers" or with lemon juice, sugar, and salt ("Chinese cucumbers"), which she really likes.
She also likes walking around with a slice of lemon and sticking her tongue on it. Sour! she says. But she is not a big lemon water person. We sometimes squeeze a drop in while she's not looking.
Sierra, as is common in toddlers (other than it seems like most toddlers we know), doesn't like trying new foods. She'll just look and say "No". But sometimes, she randomly will try new foods. Like sunflower seeds. She just tried them a few weeks ago, and really likes them! And she's willing to try crackers or cookies. But gummy vitamins, no way. And no new fruit either.
And she stopped eating mushrooms! :(

Ra ra has a cold
It started yesterday when she seemed congested, but not runny. (similar to her suspected allergy).
Then it started running after she woke up.

In Menlo Park
Last, last weekend, we ate lunch at La Boulanger in Menlo Park. Sierra had a crossiant for I think the first time. (She wasn't willing to try it before.) She really liked it.
Today, Ra ra was playing with a crossiant in her toy kitchen. I said "Ra ra had a croissant last last weekend." and she turned to me and said thoughtfully "in Menlo Park." !!!!

Grandma and Grandpa's visit
Sierra was absolutely thrilled to see Grandma and Grandpa again.
They arrived Tues night and stayed at Robbie's house.
Wed morning Sierra clutched a little picture of Grandma and Grandpa in her little hands driving to the Redwood Grove where she was trying out a class. They were going to meet her there with Robbie. Neither Gran nor Ayi noticed that she had brought that picture along! Afterwards, they played at Shoup Park and then took Robbie home for lunch. That night, they came over and brought dinner and Sierra stayed up past her bedtime having fun with them. After dinner, everyone sat upstairs while Sierra danced and ran around excitedly. She sat in Grandpa's lap while he read some books and then Grandma read some books while she sat on the potty. She loved it.
Thursday, she didn't get to see them. They joined Robbie for Purim at Tobi's school that morning. It turns out Skyla had a preschool holiday and hosted a playdate that morning. Sierra got to see that Skyla and Caitlyn using the potty! Sierra came home and wanted to pee on the potty, and then did. But that lasted only a day.
Friday morning, I told her she was going to Robbie's house to bake challah with Grandma. She said "How about Grandpa?" and I said "And Grandpa too." and she said "Yeah, and Grandpa." She loved hanging out with Grandma & Grandpa. She loved the challah (actually Pillsbury dough shaped like challah) and gorged on cheese and turkey lurkey for lunch. Then she said goodbye to them (for this trip). (On a side note, Robbie was being possessive again and grabbing everything from S again. Grandma and Grandpa kept telling him to share. I think he might get that way when mom's not around.)
Saturday Grandma and Grandpa spent the day with Robbie before flying home. Josh is in Texas for a conference this weekend.

More Sierra-ese
I love this one:
Dow-gie or doh-gie: doggy
Did I mention Sierra loves dogs? When we see one walk by, she says "awwww look at the dowgie!"
She also likes babies. At Ameet's house, she sang some songs for his baby Amiya while her mom fed her. Sierra also reached out and held her hand at one point. Sweet.

Sierra loves sharing
As I've mentioned before, Sierra loves sharing with others. When kids come over, she loves giving them a guided tour of her toys and showing them everything. Sierra is also extremely non-aggressive. So aggressive kids will grab all her toys from her and she will stand there and take it. It's sad to watch. It's important to find a good temperament match for Sierra when finding playdates.
Skyla started preschool so I posted on the parents club looking for a new playdate. Milania came over to our house first. She seemed okay, but showed some signs of being aggressive - her mom kept correcting her and trying to tell her to share. Then we went to Milania's house the next time. Every toy Sierra picked up, Milania grabbed out of her hands and threw. This scared Sierra, who had not seen a kid this violent before. Sierra started asking where mommy was and said she wanted to go home. So they ended the playdate.
Last week, Isabella (Bella) came over. She was sweet and shy. But she warmed up and they were taking turns sliding with Big Bird (when I checked in on them). That was last Friday. Today, Sierra went to Bella's house. Bella was nice and gran said it went well. So I think Bella may be her new playdate. Bella's mom is really interested in having Bella learn Chinese too. (Bella's mom is Brazilian and her dad is from Iowa.) Bella goes to a Chinese immersion preschool 2 mornings per week. Bella is 3 years old (preschool age). Milania was 2 months younger than Sierra.
When looking for a playdate, a really good check on temperament is when visiting the potential friend's home and seeing how they behave on "their territory."
Next week, Sierra's going to Skyla's for a playdate anyway - turns out she has a holiday Thursday!
