Not as much a blog as an online baby book for jotting down notes, milestones, and documenting all the wonderful stories of Sierra before we forget them! - for her to enjoy when she grows up and for us to look back on the memories in the future. Note that this blog is not publicly searchable, so please do not share the link. I may end up password protecting it at some point.

Whew - just made it to our first week - and SHE just came home yesterday. We had an issue in the hospital where she got really dehydrated - so much so that she had to spend 2 nights in the NICU on IV / formula to get back to normal, but all is very good now. Now we're mixing formula feeds and breastfeeding to make sure she gets enough - and also to help let mom recover from the c-section. Who knows where we'll end up in long term food...
Last night was our first night and we made it through (well, I did all the night feedings with the bottle so C could sleep :) ) and today is our first full day at home. Finally starting to look forward to this now that we're all home!
We have so many pics on the camera but I haven't been able to get them up to the internetz yet. However, I have been doing this thing called Dailybooth from my iphone. You can set up an account on http://dailybooth.com and follow http://dailybooth.com/sierraheather if you want the one pic a day. I plan to do that for hopefully a long long time :)

Josh, Clover:
Congratulations! Wow. What a great name. And birthday. 11/11 Very nice. Ahead of schedule right?
Sounds like Clover went the distance. What, there's only one anesthesiologist in the whole hospital? (That's a crime that they made you wait.) I hope you heal quickly from the C-section. In the meantime, everyone should be bringing everything to you and doing your every bidding, Ms. Clover. Looking forward to more pictures!

Hi there!
Great news, and long labor story. Figured you would two of the few I wouldn't feel bad boring with it - see below.
The stats: Sierra Heather Elman (SHE) - 7lbs,1oz. 20" Born at 6:05am.

The long labor story:
Clover started contractions Monday night but they were pretty irregular and few were that intense. She still could not sleep very well Monday night. By Tuesday late morning, they were getting more regular but still not that intense. We went to the hospital but they turned us around saying Clover wasn't dilated (maybe 1cm) and the contractions weren't the intense 1 minute long ones to come in for, and guessed it would be "this week" but not sooner. We went home chagrined and wondering how long she was going to have contractions every 15-30 minutes that were sometimes painful. Ugh! Later in the evening, contractions started picking up and becoming really intense. Probably 6-7. By 7:30, they were finally going every 5-10 min intensely. We waited at home probably a little too long in order to not make the same mistake and get turned around (since they still weren't every five minutes, just lots of < 5 minutes in a row with a few 10+ minute gaps.
Anyway, so we get to the hospital around 9:45, and found out she was already 6-7cm! AND, the epidural was unavailable because the anesthesiologist was doing a c-section. OMG - so Clover keeps laboring (with some pain meds) and became fully dilated and really pushing (and they brought in all the new kid equipment). I'm so proud of how far she made it pretty much on her own. Then the epidural became available around 11:30, and with a bunch of random conversations, we opted for that since of course she was hurting. After the epidural, things slowed way way down, she got some sleep and we chilled. Restarted pushing around 1pm with pitosin to get the baby out. Unfortunately, she wouldn't come. Push push push - saw the top of the head, no real movement. Push push push. Finally, they figured out she was upside down (posterior) and stuck. Tried a few things to move her, but Clover and baby were already really tired from all the pushing and baby was
starting to struggle. After a few more pushes, and contractions we had to skip to let the baby recover, the doctor finally recommended C-section. So, we did that and out she came. A few small complications quickly cleaned up, and now she's in great shape. Clover was so amazing, but now has a bit of recovery herself.
The
good news is that mom and baby are both doing well and
recovering. We'll be at the hospital until Sunday and then bring her home!
