Sierra's favorites / Failed items

Favorites:
1. Vulli vanilla scented ring teether (especially the orange poodle with the bumps for fur). She'll chew and chew and hum along with this teether. It's simple, but she loves it.
2. Vulli mushroom squeaker, aka Bluey. This is nice and soft and she likes chewing on it. Much softer than Sophie the Giraffe (see below). Mudder even commented once that she would also prefer chewing on Bluey to Sophie!
3. Baby Animals black & white board book. She loooooooved Mr. Seal at first sight. She stared at him within days of us bringing her home from the hospital.
4. Puppies & Kittens touch & feel board book. You'd think I was being biased since I myself like puppies and kittens, but seriously, she loves this book. She even reads it on her own and turns the pages! (This really impressed Grandpa when he visited.) She didn't at first, but now she knows to touch the fur too. This was a gift from Ken, Kali, and Sidney.
5. Cats board book. (Yes, the girl loves books.) She loves looking at the different cats in this book. This was a gift from Chris, Kim, and Max.
6. Fisher Price Aquarium bouncer chair. ("the blue chair") We got this as a hand me down from Irv and Alison. They don't make it anymore (the newer FP bouncers sit much more upright), and I used to think that she might prefer it sitting more upright to it being so reclined, but BOY DOES SHE LOVE THIS CHAIR. (Actually it is still sold on Amazon with tons of excellent reviews.) It's the one thing she'll last in longer than anything else. The lullabies it plays are actually pretty nice and she enjoys looking at the bubbles. When she was younger, she'd sit in it long enough for us to cook and eat, which was great. One of the first places she rolled over was in the chair (she flipped to her tummy a bunch of times and would cry, stuck on her tum!) and she enjoys doing that today too - rolling back and forth (supervised of course!).
7. Tiny Love symphony in motion mobile. When she was younger, she'd last as long under this as in the blue chair, if not longer. She'd lie under it, mesmerized by the motions. We would bring our dinner and sit by the crib while she enjoyed lying under it. Nowadays, she'll grab the toys and stop it in its tracks while it clicks (since it is stuck, trying to move). She doesn't last as long under it these days, but still enjoys it.
8. Fisher Price Jungle gym mat. When she was younger, she'd lie under it, mesmerized by the lights and enjoy the upbeat, cheerful music. Now she plays under it and grabs the toys, and still enjoys the music. This was a gift from Grand uncle Steve and Debbie who just had granddaughter and are clearly experienced with what babies enjoy!
9. Bright starts basic blue bouncer ("the other blue chair") - this was a hand me down from Inn and Eugene. It's a basic bouncer chair with cheap ass music (which we didn't even have batteries for until later - so the music didn't matter), but it sits much more upright than the reclined fisher price bouncer, allowing her to reach for (initially) and grab/chew (later/now) hanging toys. This is in the bathroom and Josh puts her in it while he showers or whatever
10. Anything crinkly. She likes the crinkle paper in some toys. Like her owl toy and the blue elephant toy that Robbie had here for awhile. With the owl toy, she'll grab it and wave it wildly back and forth to get the crinkle noise going.
11. Princess Taggies book. This is her diaper changing table book. Josh used to put the book over her face when he changed her in the middle of the night to cover her eyes from the light to keep her from waking too much (otherwise she'd squint in the bright light). She loved playing peek a boo with this book at first (where you hide her face under the book). When she's crying when you put her on the changing table, pointing out the "deep storylines" in the book always calms her down and she focuses on the pictures. And then she started playing fetch - where she throws it on the floor and has you pick it up for her and laughs (initially Winnie observed that she didn't quite master the letting go part, so she'd throw it and not let go and still laugh).
12. Homedics Sienna Illumination Relaxation Fountain. We run this fountain for her every night and during naptime. We noticed she was soothed by running water and it also helps block out the noise. We and she preferred this one to white noise systems since it is real water.

Failed items:
1. Baby Jogger Bassinet. She hated lying flat and for that matter, lying alone in the crib or anywhere at all, hence our co-sleeping
2. Graco Sweetpeace Soother swing. This fancy swing that swung in multiple directions was a fail. She'd cry if we put her in it. It has a nice seat that resembled a carseat, which she would sleep in, so good in concept. Oh well.
3. Graco swing frame. This frame fit the Graco carseat. She would sit in it, but not any longer than just sitting on the floor. It did nothing for her.
4. Baby Jogger stroller. Hopefully this will change as she gets older, but she hasn't really been a fan so far. The seat is too deep for her. Last weekend, we took her on the los gatos creek trail and she was not going to have it sitting in that stroller. Josh had to carry her back to the car.
5. The vibrating feature on bouncer chairs. This is supposed to mimic sitting in the car, but it does nothing for her. Of course, she's not much of a car sleeper either, especially lately. These days, I have to bring toys to entertain her in the car, and if she's tired, she cries, not sleeps!

Overrated (but still worth keeping - mainly overrated bc other babies seem to LOVE them, but she doesn't particularly so):
1. Fisher Price Laugh & Learn Jumperoo. She kind of enjoys bouncing in it, but doesn't last very long in this.
2. Evenflo Exersaucer. She'll last longer in this than the Jumperoo, but it's not the be all end all that people seem to rave about. Still, she likes it enough that I clean up a cat hairball from the rug while she's in it.
3. Sophie the Giraffe. She plays with it some more recently but it doesn't last long.

Top teeth

The last 2 nights, SHE woke up a whole bunch and would only sleep if Josh was holding her just right (which meant he couldn't sleep) - Josh had to lie on his back and have her lie diagonally across his chest. Last night, Josh noticed the white in the gum showing where her upper front teeth (at least 1, maybe 2) are coming in. Soon Sierra will have matching upper teeth to go with her cute little 2 bottom teeth!

Sierra likes laughing a lot. She laughs when I say "Ka ka ka ka" really fast, and also when I make funny noises like "goo goo ga ga" and also when I stick out my tongue at her, and just making funny faces and noises gets her laughing.

July 4th

While Sierra (and us!) didn't stay up or out for Fireworks, we did try to enjoy the holiday 3-day weekend. On Saturday, we ran a bunch of errands - going all the way to Lullaby Lane to check out new strollers and ran some errands and returns in Millbrae and Tanforan first. Sierra was good for the long drive and just got a little cranky at the end. In the afternoon, we hung out in the backyard on a blanket under the tree and then went on a long walk through downtown Mountain View. Sierra stayed awake the ENTIRE WALK until the we were 3 blocks from home. It was already 8:30 at that point... On the 4th, we went to the Farmer's Market and then relaxed at home, saving up our energy for a barbecue with Norm, Jen, and Jaden. We arrived around 5:30 just when the food was ready and Sierra enjoyed seeing all the people and trying out Jaden's swing and bumbo seat. And for the first time, she ate a meal outside the house (meaning that we both ate cold food by the time we got to eating ourselves). We sat Sierra in front of Jaden (who's about 1.5 months younger) and they stared at each other and Sierra reached out and took his hand. So cute. By Monday, we were all wiped out so we didn't do much until the late afternoon when we tried to take Sierra to the Los Gatos Creek trail for a walk in the Baby Jogger stroller. She didn't like her big girl stroller so we didn't get that far and I had to carry her back to the car. I find myself more exhausted after a 3 day weekend with Sierra than a 5 day work week.

SHE enjoyed her first backpack walk
